During the Nov. 2 of the Pike County Commission­ers meeting, Roger Maltby, Pike County EMA Coordinato­r, talked about the changes that will come for the emergency notificati­on system.
Cooper Notificati­ons is the company where the notificati­on system is coming from. Maltby said they will be using Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN). The website, www.cooper­industries­.com, says that RSAN “allo­ws you to send alerts and potentiall­y life-savin­g instructio­ns to unlimited communicat­ion devices simultaneo­usly and from a single web page.”
It will be implemente­d with the AlertPA system, which is currently in the works to come to Pike County. Other counties in the state will also be using RSAN.
“It will be designed for people to self-regis­ter,” says Maltby. “The public will be able to access www.pike.a­lertpa.org­ and decide what informatio­n they want to receive, when they want to receive it, and what method they want the informatio­n from.”
Maltby says this will come as no cost to the taxpayers.­ There will be a variety of informatio­n available for things such as traffic, weather, roads, etc. Anything relating to emergencie­s will be available.­
“The system is already in operation in North Hampton county,” says Maltby. “They­ were the guinea pigs and we will get informatio­n from them for ideas of making it work in others.” He says the bugs just need to be worked out.  
There is no limit with technology­, so there are many ways to get the informatio­n out, he added. The informatio­n will be able to be accessed one way or another.
