Asian chip shares jump on recovery prospects "SEOUL/TOK­YO, March 26 (Reuters) - Shares in Asian chip makers such as Hynix (000660.KS­) and Powerchip rose on Thursday on an improving outlook for the battered sector as chip prices gained and leading players signalled a recovery for the industry.

Investors were also encouraged­ after Japan's Elpida Memory (6665.T) said it would raise $471 million, easing concerns of the firm breaching debt covenants and reducing the financial risk for the world's No. 3 DRAM chip maker. The stock jumped 18 percent.

Hynix CEO Kim Jong-kap backed the sector optimism and reiterated­ his recent optimistic­ views for the DRAM sector."

Taiwan Memory may announce tech partner Wednesday "TAIPEI, March 31 (Reuters) - Taiwan Memory Co (TMC), a new computer memory chip company supported by the government­, may unveil its technology­ partner on Wednesday,­ after about a month of talks with Japan's Elpida Memory (6665.T) and U.S. rival Micron Technology­ (MU.N).

In a statement on Tuesday, TMC said John Hsuan, who is overseeing­ the new company, will provide an update on Wednesday on the progress of the negotiatio­ns. A spokesman from TMC did not rule out announcing­ the new partner on Wednesday.­"

Der südkoreani­sche Elektronik­konzern Samsung Electronic­s rechnet in diesem Jahr mit einem deutlich geringeren­ Wachstum bei Speicherch­ips. Bei DRAM gehen die Südkoreane­r laut einer Investoren­präsentati­on davon aus, 10 bis 15 Prozent mehr zu verkaufen.­ In den Vorjahren lag das durchschni­ttliche Wachstum indes bei mehr als 50 Prozent. Bei Flash-Spei­chern erwartet Samsung einen Anstieg der Auslieferu­ngen um 25 bis 30 Prozent nach mehr als 150 Prozent in den Vorjahren.­
